Gina and I first met Kim and Brigette back in 2010, when one of them was getting ready to celebrate an important milestone in her life and hired Enamour to capture that moment. The other friend was “strongly encouraged” to let us photograph her as well. “Oh no, oh no. Me?! Hahaha, I can’t do that.”
Um, yes, you! Um, you NEED to do this – for us! We NEED to take your picture.
Okay, okay, she bravely complied, partly to support her friend, and partly, I suppose, because it actually did look like fun! And partly, I guess, because we can be very persuasive when we want to. It’s just that Gina and I were so taken by these two women, because it was clear their friendship was very special, and that bond spoke to us.
A few months later, life looked very different, for both women. One was shaken from the path she thought she’d be on. The other seemed to be finding her own feet again. But their friendship remained solid, as strong as ever.
When we opened our new Chicago studio in 2012, Kim and Brigette returned for another photo shoot. Their portraits, as you can see here, are images that demonstrate power and strength and joy from within. They are unique individuals who each see beauty in their own way and gave us different goals and challenges to meet. For us, we love to hear their laughter, witness their loyalty, and listen to them support and compliment one another, and share this empowering experience together.
Here’s Kim’s words, in her own testament to Brigette…
We’ve been friends since sophomore year in high school (and that was a LONG time ago). She was a transfer student and on her first day of French class, I just walked up to her and introduced myself. We’ve been friends ever since.
We moved away to college and at times were thousands of miles away and barely got to see each other. There may have been times when months go by and we wouldn’t talk, but every time we did it was like no time had passed at all.
We always seemed to go through the same milestones in life at the same time (heartbreak, career choices) without even knowing it. We support each other just by being ourselves. We share our experiences, our insights, and allow the other person to see the bigger picture. We keep each other grounded.
She is truly a beautiful person on the inside and out. She brings out such a positive energy within me just by keeping me company or listening to me when I’m having a bad day. And I don’t feel like I’m crazy because most of the time, she’s thought the same thing or has gone through it too. She may not always be there when I call but she’s always on time, even when I don’t think I need it. I don’t know what I’d do without her. She brings out the best in me and helps me to get through my worst.
